**Problem Description:** - Bob reported that his HVAC system had suddenly stopped cooling. - Another HVAC company previously added 4 lbs of refrigerant and indicated the leak was from service valves. **Inspection and Findings:** - Conducted a leak check using a refrigerant leak detector, which signaled a leak near the indoor unit's evaporator coil. - Observed that the evaporator coil is in poor condition, likely due to an inadequate filter design. - The HVAC closet was evaluated and found to have insufficient opening in the builder-installed closed door for return air, leading to high static pressure and potentially overworking the blower motor. **Recommendations:** 1. **HVAC System Replacement**: Given the potential upcoming repair costs, including the need for an evaporator coil replacement. 2. **Blower Motor Concerns**: The blower motor may soon fail due to current system strain. 3. **Compressor Risk**: The compressor has been operating with low refrigerant levels, increasing the
After conducting a diagnostic on the system, it was found to be low on R-410a. The refrigerant was removed, and the system was pressurized with nitrogen, revealing a minor leak near the air handler in the liquid line. The coupling around the leak area was brazed, followed by a pressure test. A deep vacuum was then pulled, and 8.5 lbs of R-410a were added to bring the system back to operational status. Additionally, the room thermostat was replaced, and currently, everything is functioning properly.
The customer's 7-year-old Carrier system is in poor condition, with a blower motor requiring replacement and partially clogged evaporative coils at risk of imminent failure (a prior estimate for coil cleaning was provided). After speaking with Cheryl, who requested a blower replacement and inquired about warranty coverage, we confirmed the warranty with the Carrier supplier. An updated estimate, reflecting the warranty coverage, has been sent
